Well, its been a couple months now and the turnouts for Wednesday and Thursday are pretty weak. I would first like to thank everyone who spent their time to attend our events and visit us during the week. I would also like to thank Sherryjenix and NerdJosh for being very helpful and sticking with me the entire time. I split half the arcade to be part dedicated old school arcade with coin-op arcade machines, and the other half to be a dedicated tournament area. Going into things I had some high hopes but eventually the numbers speak for themself and its just not happening. I can honestly say I gave it a full effort and I have no regrets. Theres a lot of people with a lot of opinions and of course everyone on the internet thinks they know everything so lets elaborate a bit on the entire situation.
First people were complaining about what day of the week the tournaments run and so on. There is a Tuesday tournament for Street Fighter and Tekken that runs weekly at a nice spot and their turnout isnt all that great. There are also other venues that run various tournaments throughout the week and their turnouts could also use a lot of help. Point being is that it really doesnt matter what day its on unless its a weekend. Using the day of the week is just an excuse really. Its just not feasible to run tourneys on a weekly basis and during the middle of the week. Theres only so many dedicated players and people willing to make the drive to leave the comfort of their home to play games competitively.
The part that leaves me laughing the most is actually the people complaining about streams all the time. In 100% honesty, I really could give no shits about the stream. These kids now a days really expect me to spend about $5,000 to get a nice set up and then go and pay someone to stream, then pay for commentators? Lol….. And that does what good for me? I spend about $150 a day to get a stream going and yeah, we have our loyal subscribers and stuff, but that doesnt even come close to covering cost. The worst of it is, the ones that complain the most are the ones that expect everything for free. Complain about this, complain about that, but show 0 support in showing up to tourneys or contributing to the scene and dont even sub for that matter lol. What a joke.
Regardless, the fallback plan is fortunately more profitable and will free up my time to do other things. I will eventually turn Super Arcade into a full blown arcade and add about 100 arcade cabinets to the area that is currently occupied by tournament stations. This is not what I want to do as I was chasing my passion for scene for years just getting this place up and running. But, the people have spoken and I cant and wont beg and force people to come here if they dont want to. I built it, I gave them a place to play, and if they dont like it here, then so be it. No harm, no foul, and lesson learned. Just time to turn the page and do whats best for me now.
Bottom line is, the arcade cabinets are rocking and bringing in a nice income holding the tournament section afloat. Street Fighter 5 and other fighting games just dont get supported here for weeklies and its time to switch things up. And for one last time for the people who keep asking and not reading……. I cannot move Street Fighter and Tekken to weekends cause the turnout wont justify those games replacing Smash bros and old school. Thanks again for reading and if anything changes (including my mind) then you will be hearing from me real soon. Until then, it was fun and thanks for the memories sf5 and tekken people. But its time to focus on the sub scenes that are not influenced directly by financial gains and bullshit esports money and focus on what not “hollywood.”
